This week

This week sees me start in earnest to try and diet. I have never been thin, well, maybe when I was born, but I always struggle to keep weight off. As well as this my size is also testament to my love of food and my love of beer of all varieties. Both will need to be diminished greatly.

I guess my whole problem is self control and moderation. For some reason I always like being larger than life - so if I can drink 6 pints or eat 4 big macs, and funds and occasion allow, then I will. Not because I want to gorge on food but typically I cannot moderate my in take very well.

So, tommorow (Tuesday) is my last day before dieting. I am planning on joining Weight Watchers like Emma has done (and the same class) and attempting to follow it strictly by ensuring I measure, weigh and list down points. Where needs be I will also try and allow points for something special at a weekend.

I have been given two things as incentives to drive me on. The first is that I have started a camera fund from Christmas. I want to buy a good digital SLR but obviously they cost. So Emma is going to allow me £30 to add to my pot for every 7 pounds in weight I loose (plus adding any from my bonus which I might get in June). The second is that my mum has said that if I do well they will pay for a flight to New York for me this year, which is great.

So here goes - on Wednesday night I will share with you my weight (I am guessing about 19stone 13) but maybe more.

Cheers guys

In the mean time I am enjoying eating all the bad things I like. Come Thursday morning it will be all gone.

Paul - you spotted a DSLR you like yet?

One's I like and one's I can afford are different matters lol!

I've a what camera if you are interested btw.

Quite like the canons - 350d or 20d.

Still not sure of which side of the fence I come down on in terms of how risk interchangeable lenses are. There's an issue around dust, static and the image sensor.

Canons are where I am heading but I get what your saying about lenses.

To be fair, unless I had seen the difference between a 35mm camera and the SLR I am using now, I would have just got a normal digital camera. But the difference has blown me away which has made me determined to save and get something of top wack.

The lenses though are key for me.

Thanks - I am about to post on my blog about it but it feels good being honest and open about things and hopefully will be a kick up fatness to keep me going in terms of being so honest.

Well done for that initial step of wanting to change! It's a slow process but you do reap the rewards: feeling fitter, rediscovering tastes over quantity, the pleasure of feeling hunger and then satiating that hunger. The weight loss tends to be annoyingly slow but keep at it! I've lost over 2 stones since August. I'd like to lose more but I've hit a bit of a plateau. But it's all good cos I feel a lot healthier. Go for it!

What do you mean in difference? I've not heard any review say that the picture quality is better on a digital? INdeed unless you get a full image capture one (£2k+!) then it's arguably worse if you want to blow it up significantly to A2 or something.

Which Canon has caught your fancy?

I said: between a 35mm camera and the SLR
35mm - standard click and shoot camera you can buy for a tenner which I use to use, the SLR, big camera that I stick fancy lenses to. It was the difference between these two cameras which are both non digital that I could tell the difference.

I am assuming that a good DSLR will be as good as a normal SLR but better than a bog standard 35mm cheapo camera.

As to which one I aint got a clue as I aint had time to look no have much idea really.
